Sneaky or What?

Over the years I have found Grass Snake eggs in the compost heaps and have watched them dive into the ditch. I have feared for them when seeing them slip into the oil-ridden waters of the last two years.
This discovery was made having had a snake slide from my path in a great squiggle of elegant surprise only a week before.  I am not sure what they live on for sadly all the hundreds of frogs and thousands of tadpoles, that once occupied my organic garden, have since disappeared over the 35 years I have been providing a pond for them.
So, well done snake for using my Bramley apple tree for safety and shelter.
