Summer Bounty

We often imagine summer and nature to be ever-increasing in its bounty and generosity of spirit. Suddenly, it appears and we can take advantage of its growth and usefulness.  The first slide in this video shows my Elderberry Tree full of fruit ripening in readiness for birds to enjoy eating it in the autumn. It is shown as an example of how to sustain wild food for wild animals.
Sadly, the foraging of elder flowers for the production of Elderberry Juices has left vast swathes of the countryside berry-bare.  It is so easy to take what seemingly appears to be plentiful but we can forget that our taking is not singular to ourselves.
If many people forage from the countryside, then their plunder of nature’s resources leaves it bare not only for wildlife and their survival, but also for others of us who simply want to stand and stare and leave it as it is, respected and untouched.
