Bees and Poppies in May
Give yourself one minute only, simply to submerge into the easy world of bees . . .
Recorded in June 2021 when bees were abundant but not in 2023. The severe drought and heat of 2022 will have had a severe impact upon solitary bees. The very wet winter and spring has reduced the spread of poppies in May 2024 and there are fewer bees.
The weather has been extremely hot for April and May 2025 – plants are exuding moisture onto their leaves because of wide temperature fluctuations and lack of rain is causing them stress. Once again sadly, there are very fee solitary bees, but small bumblebees are still visiting. The drought has caused the flowers on my Pieris to dry up and normally this is full of bees, none this year.
