Which Bees in March?
Which bees do we see so early in the year? Taking advantage of the sun and sweet-smelling Skimmia flowers they bumble out of hibernation for their first nectar ‘fix’. Recorded March 2022.
March 2023 the Skimmia has had very few if any bumble bee visitors, sadly.
Sadly again, the Skimmia suffered badly during the intense heat of last June 2023 and has died back to a third of its size. With careful pruning it still survives but only a quarter of its size last year. The few flowers still attract some bumble bees however – March 2024
Our winter has been very wet and lately cold thus restraining the flowering of the Skimmia this year. No bees seen yet – 18 March 2025
We have had large Buff-Tailed Bumble Bees visiting the Skimmia this year – March 2026
